This spring Paris offers several events that should not be missed. Contemporary art lovers will be eager to attend the Art Paris Art Fair, while those with a passion for the printed page are invited to explore the book fair now known as Livre Paris. Finally, lovers of beautiful things will be delighted by the Rodin exhibition at the Grand Palais.
Discovering contemporary artists
From March 30th to April 2nd the Art Paris Art Fair returns once again to the Grand Palais. This trade fair welcomes more than 50,000 visitors each year in an event space of more than 6500m². Exploring European art from the post-war period to the present day, as well as emerging art scenes on an international scale, the Art Paris Art Fair is essential for anyone with an interest in contemporary art. Whether the creative urge is expressed through painting, sculpture or photography, the intent of this fair is to make contemporary art accessible to all. This year the guest of honour is Africa, offering a special focus on the artistic fertility and energy of that great continent. In parallel with the main events, several solo shows are organised. These small exhibitions dedicated to a single artist make it possible to better understand their work. The works are for sale, so you can leave with a treasure or two.
Rodin at the Grand Palais
While you’re enjoying your visit to the Grand Palais, take a little time to discover Rodin; the Centennial Exhibition, which runs from March 22nd to July 31st and offers a new perspective on the versatile artist. Come and explore the world of a sculptor who fashioned his own distinctive creative universe and inspired others to appropriate his style. Auguste Rodin’s most famous works, as well as more intimate creations, are presented amongst over 200 items assembled in the superb setting of the Grand Palais to mark the centenary of his death. Inspired by an exhibition of 1900 organised by the master himself, the exhibition features sculptures, of course, but also sketches and photographs to offer a broad overview of Rodin's oeuvre. The initiator of the seemingly unfinished or ‘fragmented’ work, he influenced many of his contemporaries and continues to inspire artists today.
The printed word in all its forms
From March 25th to 27th, the Porte de Versailles Exhibition Centre will host Livre Paris, formerly known as the Salon du Livre. This monumental book and publishing trade fair hosts more than 3000 writers. This year the national guest of honour is Morocco. During this fair you’ll have plenty of opportunities to talk with authors from all over the world, discover young talents or even get your favourite novels signed. Livre Paris is the largest non-specialist book event in France, and in its various themed spaces you’ll meet not only writers, but also agents, editors, publishers, bookbinders and papermakers, as well as e-book developers and even manufacturers of reading lamps. Fine arts, comics, books for children and young people, classical literature or recipe books… it’s all here to delight bibliophiles.
